VSM is being over hyped in the message below. To counter this I posted the following comment on the relevant web page below:

    Hi Thanks for your advice. But if you register and login to the webpage you can find my comment posted as follows:
    
    Stafford Beer was inspired by living systems to develop his VSM model, but he informed me that he never extended it to the governance of a firm. No firm can exist without stakeholders, but VSM ignores all stakeholders except employees. So VSM cannot be applied to transforming firms to become self-governing. All living systems must become self-regulating and self-governance in unknowable, dynamic, complex environments. But VSM is impotent in transforming firms to become self-regulating or self-governing in firms managed like communist dictatorship governed by a central committee controlling command and control hierarchy. Self-governance is not possible unless there is a requisite variety of politically independent decision-making centres to create a division of powers to introduce contestability as is built into human brains that have no Chief Executive Neuron. Brains simplify complexity by having different parts make different decisions. The parts both compete and cooperate with each other according to internal needs and drives and external risks and opportunities for survival. Such contestation is denied and punished in management dictatorships.
